I was approached by Kretschmer Wheat Germ to review their product and to offer some free product to one of my readers! The lovely Sue T. was the winner of the raffle that I had and I hope she enjoys her wheat germ as much as I have!
First…let me tell you a little bit about the product! Kretschmer Wheat Germ has been around since 1936. That was when Charles Kretschmer of Carrollton, Michigan developed and sold the first toasted wheat germ. Even though wheat germ has been getting a lot of attention lately, it is still considered “the best kept secret” among us fitness/health nuts!
According to the Kretschmer website, wheat germ is “packed with nutrients, protein and fiber” and “is making headlines as one of healthiest foods on the planet”. That is pretty cool since it tastes soooo amazing! It’s yummy with a nutty flavor and a crunchy texture. It’s a great day when the healthy food you choose to eat also tastes good 🙂
What is wheat germ exactly?
Well, it’s is the part of the wheat that sprouts and grows into a new plant. It is actually the most vitamin and mineral right part of the whole wheat kernel but is left out when wheat is processed into white flour. Crazy huh? Removing the healthiest part?
So what makes wheat germ so healthy?
Not only is it only 50 calories per serving (2-tbsp serving), but is also packed with loads of nutrients such as:
- Vitamin E
- Folic Acid
- And for an added bonus….wheat germ is also high in fiber, in non-animal protein, only contains heart healthy polyunsaturated fat and contains NO sodium!!!
Kretschmer carries three different kinds of wheat germ…they include:
- Original Toasted Wheat Germ
- Honey Crunch Wheat Germ
- Toasted Wheat Bran
I chose to get the Original Toasted Wheat Germ to try mostly because I wanted to be able to use it in a variety of different ways and didn’t want any extra added sweetness that the Honey Crunch has. I browsed around the Kretschmer website and found tons of recipes that I’m for sure going to try. Such as:
- Coconut & Wheat Germ Crusted Chicken
- Baked Chicken with Honey Mustard Sauce
- Crispy Cauliflower with a Twist
So far, I’ve added the amazing treat to tons of things! My smoothies…mixed with almond butter….on my salads….over my fresh fruit….in my Overnight Oats and so on! Here are a few pics!
I also tried the Double Berry Banana Smoothie (I did tweak it a little to suit my dairy-free life…I used Silk Vanilla Almond Milk instead of low-fat yogurt) but it turned out amazing and very filling! I definitely recommend trying this one!! **I totally forgot to take a picture but here is one from the website 🙂
So there it is! What an amazing product!! I for sure recommend trying it out (unless you are gluten-free)…there is just too many benefits and different options for trying it to not try it! Plus it’s great for all types of people….athletes, children, dieters, health-conscious eaters, Pregnant women, seniors….everyone!!!
