Great way to end my day…New Running Shoes

Okay…so I mentioned the other day that I’ve not been running since this past Saturday due to some knee pain..ugh!!  I know I over did myself that day, plus put that with the wrong running shoes and I was just setting myself up for disaster!  I’ve been resting, wrapping it, putting ice on it and it is starting to feel good again….but…unless I got fitted for shoes, it will probably happen again.

Soooo….I did it!!!  I made my first trip to Fleet Feet for brand new shoes that were fitted to my crazy flat feet! 🙂

I had an amazing experience there!!  Adrian, my Fit Professional, was more than happy to help me find the perfect shoe!  He also helped me to understand my feet more and why they are causing me the problems that they are causing.  After measuring, trying on a few different pair with inserts, and some running around outside, I finally found my new running partner!  The Brooks Women’s Adrenaline GTS 13.  I’m in love so far!!

They are amazing!!!  And it can’t hurt that they are a Runner’s World Editor’s Choice Award Winner in their 2012 issue.  Once on, they felt like I was wearing nothing but still felt all the right support in the spots I needed it!  I love that my ankles don’t roll inwards now and hope that this will relieve a lot of the pain in my feet, ankles, shins and back…fingers crossed 🙂

But back to Adrian…I was seriously impressed with his knowledge and loved learning a few new things.  Plus, he was super easy to talk to and never made me feel uncomfortable!  Plus…he loved me Injinji socks 😉  Compliments always help…LOL!

I haven’t gotten to run in them yet, besides what I ran out front of their store.  My daughter and I did take our dog Franklin for a short walk last night and I must say that I felt no pain in my knee the whole time!  That is HUGE!!!  Can’t wait to break these bad boys in with a good run!!  Hopefully this weekend….Hopefully!!

So I want to end this by saying that I’m now a huge fan of Fleet Feet and their team and will for sure be frequenting there more often for my running needs!  I want to say a huge “Thank you!!” again to Adrian at Fleet Feet-St. Charles for all his help!!  YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!

Memorial Weekend: Injinji, Sweat Pink, Fossils & More

First and foremost, I would like to say thank you to all our servicemen, past and present. Your dedication and sacrifice are greatly appreciated.

** NOTE:  I totally had this whole post typed up and then something horrible happened….my computer went on the fritz and I lost everything…even the draft that I had saved…grrrrr…Instead of retyping it right then and there…I pouted a little and then decided to just retype it out today! One day late is better than not at all…right?! 

Our weekend started off with some last-minute BBQ plans at one of our friends’ garage. My daughter was with her dad this weekend so the hubby and I just hung out at the garage and let our son run crazy for the evening. He absolutely loves it there as he can play in the dirt with his monster trucks, chase Max (the dog) around, play on the crawlin’ rigs like he is driving them. We even caught him working on one of the Jeeps out there…What a great helper!

20130524_213500Saturday was spent lounging in bed late and then lunch with my two favorite men (hubby & son) From there, we headed home so that I could sneak a run in. Decided to take a different route this time and am now pretty sure that it is my favorite route. On this run, I decided to try out the Injinji socks that I received in my RunnerBox. I will just say, that I truly didn’t know about these socks because they are “toe socks”….and I’m in no way a fan of the “toe sock”. They drive me nuts usually. I tried them any way though, because they are supposed to help with blisters (which I get all the time).

I want to go on record now by saying that I’m a true fan of the Injinji socks!! They felt amazing!! Once I had my shoes on, they felt no different from any other socks. They are super comfy and super thin….like wearing nothing at all! Will for sure be purchasing more of these bad boys! I also had on my new and AWESOME Sweat Pink laces!! They are super cute and of course love that they match my shoes! And I must say, that the combination of those socks and those laces must have made me feet magic because I ended up getting a PR on a 5K during this run! Jackpot!!!

Sunday, found us at August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area where some of my hubbys’ friends were having an RC Car Competition near Lake 35. There are lots of rocks and beautiful scenery so my son and I set off to do a little exploring.

We ended up finding some amazing fossils (Man….I want to be an archeologist so bad when I grow up). These fossils were awesome to see…I just wish I knew what it was. I know some of them are probably from fish but I’m not sure that they even exist anymore….the area we found them was originally covered by tons of rock that was blasted out when the lakes were made. Check them out!

Kaleb conned his dad into letting him play with the RC Car for a little bit and had the best time! He had the hardest time though staying out of the water and eventually took a slide down an area causing him to be soaked…didn’t even faze him…he just kept on going! Thankfully, it was super warm and he dried pretty quickly…he was only left with a huge mud mark on his britches.

IMG_20130527_025439The rest of the beautiful day we had, was spent playing at the park. We did some climbing on the “spider web”, some climbing on the rock wall, a little see-saw action and of course some walking with our dog Franklin. Ended up staying there until dark…we were all exhausted for sure!

On Monday, we spent the day trying to keep dry mostly. My husband has a Suzuki Samauri and he insists on taking the doors off every chance he gets. I told him it was supposed to rain, he said 20% chance. We decided to head to one of my Top 10 places to eat….Qdoba…where I ordered their amazing Chicken Mango Salad. We sit down to eat and then the downpour started….I just looked at my husband and said, “Well, we can take our time eating!” Thankfully the rain didn’t last long and MY seat didn’t get too wet…I can’t say the same for the hubby’s 😉 After lunch, we headed to a car show! We go to these any chance we can and this one turned out to be pretty cool! Saw some pretty neat cars and they also had tons of antiques to look at, which I love! Here is a little of what he found…

 

And you can’t forget the amazing snow cone I got (Tiger’s Blood and Pina Colada)!!! Yummy!!!

After that, we just headed home and hung around the house for the rest of the evening because of the off and on raining all day. It did finally stop raining that evening in enough time to let me get my run in! I decided to participate in the Runner’s World Summer Run Streak which is where From Memorial Day to Independence Day, you run at least one mile, every day.

So that’s that for the weekend! It was fun-filled for sure….not set in stone plans….just doing what we wanted to do whenever we wanted! Just the way I like my weekends!

The other day, I had one of the best runs I’ve had in a long time. I’ve just recently, in the last couple of months, started running again after some health problems that I’d had over the last two years. At this point, I’m just trying to get back to the miles I could do before I had to stop.  I have a problem though and it’s a doozy…..

The problem that I have is mostly in my head though….I’m totally my own worst enemy! I start getting “tired” and then I walk instead of just pushing thru and doing it! I know I can….but it still happens every time….ugh!

Not this time though! I kept calm and ran strong 🙂 

I had decided to run to the nearest gas station to grab a water and then was going to run back. I was feeling great when I took off and before I knew it….I had done a mile without ever stopping to walk!!!! And I might add, there was a steady incline during that whole mile!

I wanted to stop a few times but I pushed thru the pain. I got to the gas station shortly after, grabbed a water and two Laffy Taffy’s (yes…I love those little guys), consumed those and then headed back….which I ran the whole way also!! Given….it was mostly downhill until the end where it started inclining again. I did my cool down and finished with 2.36 miles!!! I did my first mile in 9:35…that is the fastest I’ve done it since returning to running.

I’m proud to say the least! And I won’t lie….I did a fist pump in the air when my Nike+ running app told me that I had done the mile and then did another fist pump when I heard my pace time! The people driving past me may have thought me slightly crazy with my fist pumping and huge grin on my face but I DON’T CARE!!! I felt AWESOME!!!!

In addition to my running, I’m trying to workout 3-4 times a week because 1) I need to for my own sanity and 2) it helps me with my running. I’m currently doing some arm workouts in addition to taking the 30 Day Crunch Challenge and the 30 Day Squat Challenge that I found on AprilAthena7‘s blog (which is pretty awesome also). Currently on Day 4 which is a rest day today…thank goodness…because my gluteus maximus butt is hurting!!! Have I noticed a difference? My hubby thinks so 😉

Coming soon…..I have some reviews coming up in the next week or two and I’m also going to be having my very first ever GIVEAWAY!!!! I’m sooo excited!! Come back to see what it is!!!

I found out last week that I was picked to join an amazing group of people called Sweat Pink Ambassadors…and I’m super excited to say the least.  Some of you might know what a Sweat Pink Ambassador is, but for those that don’t, let me tell you a little bit about the program.

SPA (Sweat Pink Ambassador) is a part of the website Fit Approach.  Fit Approach is a health & fitness community that is filled with a wide-range of supportive people sharing their love for health and fitness and their experiences with it.  There is a great link on their page that is a Q & A page!!  Go check it out here!

It was founded by two strong women (Jamie Walker & Alyse Mason Brill).  Their mission statement is amazing…Check it out!

Lots of Pics & #99 Workout

Okay….as promised….here are the pics of all my goodies I received in the last few days!  First off if my amazing headband from Sweaty Bands that I won over at the Travels with Mary blog.  I used it last night during my workout and it stayed on great!  Love the pattern also!

I also received the Girls4Sport halter top that I won over at Healthy Running Mama‘s blog.  It is so comfy.  I just tried it on…I didn’t actually wear it yet.  It was a little chilly yesterday.  A better review to follow.  Also…ignore that not so great picture (it’s really hard to take a picture of yourself sometimes 😉 )

I also received my mystery Conscious Box!  With the coupon I found, I ended up getting my Conscious Box for $9.99….you can’t beat that!  There are some great samples in there that I can’t wait to try out.  I will be doing an actual review for Conscious Box soon so watch for it!

I also received my box from my awesome box of goodies from my Foodie Pen Pal Lindsay!  It was filled with goodies that just look so yummy!!  More to come on what I exactly got soon.  I will say that I did try the Carmalized Walnuts and all I can say is WOW!!!!  And also to say that she must have been reading my mind because yesterday I posted about loving KIND bars and then when I opened my package last night after work, I had three new KIND bars to try!!!  JACKPOT!!

Last night, I was going to run but after getting home, I decided that I really didn’t feel up to running.  I haven’t been able to eat very much the last couple of days because of my medicine but I did do a quick workout that I found on a friend’s blog.  It’s called the #99 Workout!  You should definitely head on over and check out this post and while you are at it, check out It’s Linz‘s blog!  She really has an amazing blog!  So fun and always filled with great information regarding healthy living!

Okay…I’m not going to lie…..I only did one rep of each exercise so maybe I should call it the #33 Workout 🙂  But like I said….I’m just not feeling 100% right now!  Will try it again tonight and try to get in 2 sets of each exercise.  Will let you know how that goes!

Healthy Living…torture or not?

Healthy Living….torture or not??

Wednesday night I was right in the middle of my workout, when my mother-in-law walked past me and made the comment…”Are you torturing yourself AGAIN?”  To which I replied, “It’s definetly NOT torture!”  I don’t know about the rest of you but I enjoy working out and eating food that is good for me.  I love how it makes me feel.  I love how it makes me look.  I love it in general!  Yes!!  It does hurt sometimes…but isn’t it a good hurt?!  Don’t you feel tons better after and glad that you did that workout/run/walk?  Don’t you feel better when you make healthier eating choices?  I know for a fact that I do!

I ended up with a great workout Wednesday night.  Started with my run and decided at last minute to run a 5K just to see what my time would be.  I’m just getting back into running after some health issues and so have been trying to work my mileage up a little at a time.  Ended up finishing 3.1 miles in 37 (misprint…should say) 34:48 minutes!!  I’m (even) HAPPY(IER) with that!  I started to get tired at the end and still had to walk some but I did it!!!  I also started the Active Advantage Beginner Strength Training Program.  Did Day 1 and feeling good so far!  Sure to be sore in a few days but that’s okay!!  I won’t be complaining come swimsuit time 🙂

Overall, I felt great!  Maybe it was this cute outfit I had on!
